Whelehans Wines welcomes the great Port House of Krohn

IMG_4596

We are delighted to announce the arrival of a wonderful selection of Ports from the world famous Port House of Krohn.

Established in 1865, Wiese & Krohn is now run by the third generation of the Falcão Carneiro family. Its stocks of Port reach over 5 million litres and are stored in six cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and one cellar in the Douro Region.

The Company owns an estate called Quinta do Retiro Novo which is situated in one of the noblest parts of the Douro Demarcated Region – the Rio Torto valley. The Ports coming from this area are well known for their superior quality. Vintage, Late Bottled Vintage and Colheita Ports from the House are originated here.

We are enormous fans of their Ports and we think you will be too!

Unoaked, this wine has a wonderful broad palate with layers of hard fruits aromas and flavours. The wines of the Mâconnais will feature on most wine lists in and around Lyons.

Cuvée Caroline Picpoul de Pinet 2015

€14.95

Picpoul-Cuvee-Caroline-2014

A very trendy white grape, the Piquepoul, comes from the appellation Picpoul de Pinet in the Languedoc.

It produces a really lively, zesty white that is vibrant and moreish. This will be a great choice for those that are eyeing up some Langoustines and they are always well priced.

Domaine de L’Amauve Côtes du Rhone 2014

€14.95

Côtes du Rhone as a wine style is typically a very safe horse to bet. Classically this wine style will have attractive soft ripe red fruit flavours with varying degrees of spice.

This particular wine is from a very small specialist producer, Christian Voeux and only 5,000 bottles of it were made. It has a really generous palate feel with lots of ripe fruit flavours.

Alc. 14.5%

Domaine de La Vialle Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2012

€29.95

For those who are in absolute celebratory mode, it seems appropriate to throw the spotlight on one of the most famous appellations in the Southern Rhone, Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Famed for many reasons but primarily for the richness of the fruit that goes into the wine.

This particular Domaine wine is rich, complex and intriguing without being too powerful.
