A lovely fruity taste. Kept on drinking over several glasses.

It reminds me to Burgundy. Mineral, lovely acidity, and tropical fruits.
Merlot is a wonderful Bordeaux cultivar whose parentage is a cross between the Cabernet Franc and the Magdeline Noire des Charentes. References to this cultivar appear in the mid-1700’s. It ripens relatively easily and is very widely planted throughout the world.
It is one of the world’s most planted grape varieties and the most planted variety in France. It is the 3rd most planted grape variety in Chile. 3rd Most planted variety in South Africa. In France it is often blended with other grape varieties whereas in the New World, it is often vinified as a single varietal.
In the glass It typically has a good depth of colour with alluring aromas of plum fruits or deep red fruits. From warmer climates, it tends to make wines which are rich and broad on the palate with medium to high alcohol and are instantly enjoyable. In cooler climates it can have some herbaceous type characters and show restraint.
The most famous expressions of the Merlot grape hail from the right bank in Bordeaux notably the appellations of St Émillion & Pomerol. In these AOCs the Merlot dominant blends are very highly rated and priced. Notably Bordeaux’s most expensive wine, Château Pétrus, comes from the appelation of Pomerol and is normally made from 90+% Merlot grapes.
